Recreating Beautiful

By Ava Simone

Over the past several years, I had purposefully surrounded
myself with beautiful things. They were, at least, beautiful to me. I had tried to create a life to embrace and rest within. I had
purchased bright, colorful artwork and covered every wall with bold colors and bursts of flowers that shout renewal, empowerment, and courage. I had scoured the thrift shops and
discount stores and found what were gems to me. Oh, some may say the art was merely cheap stretched canvases with acrylic colors and faded images. But for me, they warmed my soul
with brilliance and comfort.

I chose to regularly remove myself from a world that many times felt hopelessly void of human kindness and seemed beyond repair. Instead, I preferred to shelter and renew myself behind my walls in solitude, where I was free. This wasn’t hard to do because of the natural introvert that I am. It was the fragrant incense or the Palo Santo sage that filled my home with
sweetness, and it was the soft jazz that floated into my soul and into every room in my home. I had created a haven.

My wind chimes made their own special music on my balcony when the breeze nudged them. Sometimes the one inside my home made music even with no breeze. That was magical. My ability to be still and silent and not be afraid to do either would be life-changing for me, although I hadn’t realized it at the time. In that quiet space, I was assured that there were solutions, there was hope, there were loving memories of those long gone, and that everything was going to be alright. It was in my beautiful special space that I was reminded that I cannot control the world. I can only do my part to add kindness and beauty to humanity in whatever way I am meant to do so.

It was the undeniable peace and joy that inhabited every inch of my sanctuary and always welcomed me home. It was there that I felt the presence of loving ancestors and protective angels who whispered comforting words in my ears. I was safe within those walls. I had not only created a home for myself but a place where love, hope, and faith came to live with me.

One day, I left that all behind and started another journey, one just as relevant and beautiful. In this new space, I carved out a niche for myself and placed a light in the window because the
Divine was with me. It was home for now. I knew that one day I would create that same type of beauty from the past again. It wouldn’t look the same – it would be better; It always is.

This new journey had already awakened me to bright and creative ideas, and I was grateful. I was always learning, and my soul remained open to the universal flow of endings and new beginnings. I had joyfully decided to live and enjoy my life and pay absolutely no attention to my age. I would recreate my “beautiful” as often as needed, again and again, gathering more
memories along the way. It wasn’t too late. I wasn’t too old. I could start over…and I did.
